I am most certainly not the admin of this LUG, but I would like to take interest in the welfare of this mailing list.
If you are ever planning to reply in the LUG, the digest mode is not what you want. Asking questions is a different beast since you create the new subject. I would suggest you do the following. A) You want to be active on the LUG i) Create a new email-id for the lug. eg. If your name/nick of choice is Foo Bar/FooBar, create a gmail id called foobar.il...@gmail.com. (I had a spare id that I created by mistake). ii) Unsubscribe from the LUG mailing list for the old id http://www.ae.iitm.ac.in/mailman/listinfo/ilugc iii) Resubscribe with the new id through the same page. ( You do not lose any karma points for doing so :P ). This time, you know that you have subscribed for only the LUG (and possibly a few other mailing lists). So use the normal mode. Do not choose the digest mode B) If you are passive on the mailing list or want to only ask questions, i) I would still recommend A ii) Snip the unnecessary parts of the digest mail and retain only the parts that you need iii) *CHANGE THE SUBJECT* from Digest Volume XYZ to the real subject of the conversation I would still recommend that you subscriibe to the normal mode of the mailing list. If you use gmail, you can put multiple inboxes to good use for this. Create a filter for lug messages, add a label to it in the actions option of the filter and use a separate inbox frame for that filter alone. By subscribing to the digest and changing the title, you are still possibly ruining the coherency and the context of the message as gmail(which most use) and most other email clients may not be able to classify them as a part of the same thread. This ruins the flow of the thread. I find that you may be able to retain it in the same thread by keeping the title as Re: [ilugc] <Original Title in the thread>. Do not prefix another Re: Use the initial thread posts's title Any more tips are welcome. --- Ashok `ScriptDevil` Gautham _______________________________________________ To unsubscribe, email ilugc-requ...@ae.iitm.ac.in with "unsubscribe <password> <address>" in the subject or body of the message. http://www.ae.iitm.ac.in/mailman/listinfo/ilugc
