I recall something called "tags" which seemed to be similar to mail folders. The digest mode is for people who wish to see the messages only once in a while _and_ use an antiquated mail program. With most modern mail programs it is easy to classifying incoming mail into folders so that one does not have to read a particular folder until one wants to. You can even set up "auto-aging" so that messages older than a certain date are automatically erased. There are a number of reasons why one should try to use one (or a small number of) e-mail id(s) for as long as possible. Primarily, in the FOSS world it allows people to identify your interaction with the community.
