There was a B.Sc. Physics student from Erode, Tamil Nadu who enjoyed working with GNU/Linux (having the curiousity of how things work), and everything he learnt has been through self-study, working with the system, mailing list discussions, searching online for answers etc. He was skilled with this and was hired for the job! IIRC, he didn't even clear his B.Sc. Physics papers :p --- | 3. We look for coding skills , attitude to learn by doing. \-- True. That is why F/OSS unconferences are very important, and they have to *exist* in every city/town/village in India. We can see how people work, communicate, interact and help each other in an unconference, and recruit them, rather than waste time reading fancy resumes or searching "job portals". --- | 4. 90% of those who come for interviews with us could not even attempt the hands on coding test. They had sent "impressive | " resumes. \-- Agreed. --- | 5 It is obvious that institutions teach what they want to teach and not what is required by the industry. \-- They shouldn't teach what is required by the Industry, IMO. They should teach to use free/open standards, and tools.
