However, this decision has not been made just because some IIT students intervened but as a result of a two-month long campaign in which the Free Software Foundation, Tamil Nadu organised signature campaigns, met IAS officers and the Minister and worked closely with the media. This, i think would be evident from the fact that the article in The Hindu which first raised the issue has references to FSFTN's work on the issue. See.. http://www.thehindu.com/todays-paper/tp-national/tp-tamilnadu/article2419753.ece Also, see.. http://www.hindu.com/2011/06/26/stories/2011062662590400.htm FSFTN has students from IIT and also a larger group of professionals and students from outside. Our first step in this campaign was.. http://www.fsftn.org/tn-students-laptop-petition and more recently.. http://fsftn.org/content/we-condemn-act-removing-free-software-latest-tender-free-laptop-scheme </quote> Interesting ! Going to BOSS is a good move , atleast a public funded distribution is going for some public initiative aka getting used . BOSS team needs to ensure that 1 .The distribution quality is maintained 2. All the hardware is supported out of the box . 3. Load the distribution with software which is really essential . 4. Make sure that they train some groups and make them test the distribution. 5. *listen* to feedback from community(debian , local ILUGC ) and try to work towards making it more community oriented .
