Some mail clients are so smart, when you put an @ in your e-mail ID
they automatically consider it a part of the hostname or a server name
and act accordingly. What you need is really smarter clients, not a
Microsuxism where the client considers itself smarter than the user.

To solve your problem, use linuxlingam!bhairon.com or
linuxlingam#bhairon.com. bhairon is running VishwaKarma AFAIK, and
the ! and # variants were created specifically to resolve this kind of
issue.

i have already tried the options with the ! and the # marks, as well as
tried just entering bhairon.com as the host rather than mail.bhairon.com.

none of these options work.

AFAIK, bharion has stopped using VK for quite some time.

moreover, pop through other mail clients like kmail does work. it is only
evolution that is not working properly.
