Thanks for reminding that this important first step into introduction of computers is dominated by $$$. My approach would be to look at www.k12ltsp.org My own view point is that rather than creating more and more distros we need to create enablement that this project offers. This along with www.ltsp.org approach where most of the major distros are supported in creating networked class rooms at very low cost roll outs is the possible answer. On top of this ILUGD or similar groups can generate syllabus specific packages that can be offered from LAP site. I believe that some people in Calcutta (sorry Kolkota or what ever...) are already doing this and that is why I am marking copy to LIH list. I recently discussed roll out cost for one computer lab in a Delhi based school with one of the trustees. For one lab of 25 seats they spent Rs10lacs (Rs32,000 for hardware and Rs7000 for software - winXP, XPOffice and Corel Draw) My estimate for doing it on thin client open source solution was Rs3.5 lac. And this could come down on bulk purchases. Of course the first step remains getting CBSE to say yes. -- Sudev Barar Learning Linux _______________________________________________ ilugd mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://frodo.hserus.net/mailman/listinfo/ilugd
