It is essential that you get your terminology correct. The objective that you mention is that of the various FLOSS movements like GNU/FSF etc. GPL is just a licence and a tool for this movement.


The objective of GPL is nothing more that ensuring that the freedom of the particular software that it covers is preserved in perpetuity. Nothing more, it is not about cleansing the world of proprietary software or anything. That is going to be entirely a side-effect. ;)
