I have a Dell Inspiron PIII 800 MHz and willing to install "Red Hat Linux
7.3" on it. Please let me know if it is compatible. Or I will have to use
some Laptop specific distro like Yellow Dog etc. Please help.

Please check out http://linuxlaptops.org/dell.html for more information about your laptop. Here are a few suggestions for you

- Use knoppix (a Live CD distribution) to test whether your laptop's hardware is Linux compatible or not. Knoppix is a live cd distro and it does not need to be installed on your hard disk. You can run it from the CD itself. After you are satisfied with it, you can install it to your hard disk. This month's Linux For You comes with a Knoppix CD or ask someone o the list to burn it for you.

- If you are insistent on trying out Red Hat, I would suggest going in for Fedora (the latest version of RH). But be warned it is not a live cd distribution.

- Please do not hijack a thread. I have created a new thread for you. Use it for further discussion on this topic.

To start a new topic of discussion (commonly called a `thread'),
compose a new message. Hit the "Write new message" button (or whatever
button your client uses). Type in the address of the mailing list as
the To address. This is the only way to actually start a new thread.

Always start a new thread instead of taking an already ongoing one,
changing the subject line and posting it again. The subject line is
only loosely related to the threading. Every mail message has a
message-id. When you "reply" or "follow up" to a message, you client is
supposed to put a References header with the message-id of the message
you are replying to.

If you use an existing thread, the result is that your question is
buried below unrelated questions when looking at the mailing list in a
threaded way. This is known as `Hijacking threads'. It causes
information to be lost and you'll be less likely to get an answer.
