I was expecting a solution to installing php-gtk.
No. I gave you the solution. You probably need a solution to install php-gtk2 and not php-gtk. Check the docs for php-gtk at gtk.php.net. Check the installation instructions. And then reread what I had written in my earlier mails.
php-gtk2 works with libglade2, gtk2, etc.

I have both of these installed together on FC2 without any conflicts. As I have said before, - There is a difference between older versions of a software and older generation of software.
I know that old version would depend on older
libraries etc. While installing all older versions of
libraries, there may be a point when some 'X' package
depends on newer version and cannot be reverted back
to older version. So older verision couldn't co-exist
with newer in such case.
And something like apt would point that out, right?
