I believe Speedbooster is hardware enabled in GL and probably needs
appropriate firmware to enable it. Also from what I read it is useful
if you are trying to share files inside the wifi network - I haven't had
much use for it therefore can not comment on the same..

Hi,
The WRT54GL is best used when you replace the stock firmware with OpenWRT 
(www.openwrt.org) or DD-WRT. It opens up a whole new range of possibilities. 
Some other firmwares Ive tested it with are Coova (www.coova.org), FON 
(www.fon.com) & Zonerider (www.zonerider.net) for instant Hotspots
