I had done that after getting the newly patched cisco VPN package. The "invalid format" error is probably due to the fact that mandriva expects a gzipped format modules. As after putting the gzipped module the error gets changed to "can't read". Also i ran strace over manually inserting the module, then it seemed that insmod did not look for the module at the place where it exists.
