For IPv6, its ip6tables, not iptables. > > netstat -L lists it as running on local address *:dhcpv6-server, that is how > its supposed to be i guess. but, the state column of the entry is empty(it > says LISTEN for some of the other entries, shouldnt this socket be in LISTEN > state too??). how do i go about correcting this? Are you sure, you're mean _IPv4_ address being assigned when dhcp6c failed to assign the IPv6 address, hmm...? If you mean IPv6, not IPv4, which is some fe80::/10 address, then thats IPv6 link-local address. Or if you meant IPv4, then what kind of IPv4 address that is ? If something like 169.254/16, hmm... ? then thats, IPv4-link local address or APIPA (Automatic Private IP Addressing, Microsoft's name of IPv4 link-local)[1]. avahi-autoipd[2] of Avahi[3] is responsible for IPv4-LL in GNU/Linux and *BSD References [1] - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zeroconf [2] - http://avahi.org/download/avahi-autoipd.8.xml [3] - http://www.avahi.org/ HTH - -- Ashish Shukla आशीष शुक्ल http://wahjava.wordpress.com/ ·-- ·- ···· ·--- ·- ···- ·- ·--·-· --· -- ·- ·· ·-·· ·-·-·- -·-· --- -- -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.6 (GNU/Linux) Comment: http://getfiregpg.org iD8DBQFH8f+8Hy+EEHYuXnQRAtTqAJ0ceZR3dgDTh54+PJtikD2MaXpzXwCeKxkH cWR2a8XKV7zNVduVMBqvpLA= =XlBd -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- _______________________________________________ ilugd mailinglist -- ilugd@lists.linux-delhi.org http://frodo.hserus.net/mailman/listinfo/ilugd Next Event: http://freed.in - February 22-24, 2008 Archives at: http://news.gmane.org/gmane.user-groups.linux.delhi http://www.mail-archive.com/ilugd@lists.linux-delhi.org/
