This works fine for a nameserver address, but the /etc/resolv.conf has a wrong 
entry in it. I tried changing it, but it resets to the invalid value, the one 
that is not working for me.

My entry reads as follows:
hosts:         files nis dis

This numeric IP address is working fine :-)

So how do I correct the entry in /etc/resolv.conf so that it stays there and is 
not overwritten?
