yeah, as the previous mailer said, use wvdialconf command it will write the
configuration to /etc/wvdial.conf... then open the
/etc/wvdial.conf.....enter the phone number (*99# or some thing ) you used
to dial for connection........give some random username and password (they
are not necessary).......and optionaly in some distributions(fedora) you may
need to write the dns server to /etc/resolv.conf file.......but you dont
need to do it for ubuntu i guess.........

nameserver [IP Address of Primary DNS Server]
nameserver [IP Address of Secondary DNS Server]
