One of the easiest setups is to just use it as a "file share"
replacement. Windows boxes see is this a share and over and above
that you do get the whole web interface as a bonus. Better than
deploying a Samba server. And for those who need it, it will talk to
any LDAP including an "active directory" server.

Well, the true power of Alfresco is only seen when you add in the
workflows and processes, which is what distinguishes a Document
Management System from a Document Storage System! I'd done some work on
a pilot for a client some time ago, the project never saw light of day
but working on Alfresco was interesting.

Agreed, though -- it's a powerful tool, and hence complex. Be prepared
to redo from scratch a few times, Anand.

I agree on both points of Raju. We did some workflows and they are absolutely brilliant. My point on the file store was just that rather than setting up a samba share, you may as well do an Alfresco and even if you use only the file share its great. Of course, once you start using the workflow it becomes fantastic.

The second point on the "redo", be prepared. I have had to redo the setup a couple of times before we got it right, and every time I re-did, I also moved to the later version.

Its great fun!

Cheers...Kishore
