The first comment echoes my sentiments exactly -

 A for-profit software extends an existing framework (that they built over 9
years) to solve a specific problem.

You think they should have built a whole solution that runs on LAMP from
scratch, and open source it? You think that would be profitable? (remember,
they're a company with investors)

If the FOSS community will benefit from a LAMP implementation, someone will
eventually develop something using code from this MS project. Something is
better than nothing right! :)
