As a (former) lawyer, I suggest you look at laser printers. Inserting
sheets is a nasty and time consuming job, and sometimes, takes as much
time as manual typing.

That said, I think most dot matrix printers are generic, and will work
with the generic driver from cups.

I use 2 of them, Epson "LQ 300 Esc +" and Wipro C>R>A>P. (avoid wipro).

I really wanted to buy TVSE's printers both times, but was told that
procuring one will take up to 5 days - that was 5 years apart. (The
printers are now in 10th and 5th years of service respectrively).

You need a 24 pin one. Mine are; and are 80 column ones.

Almost all DMPs come with continuous sheet pull OR push tractors. Some
DMPs list a cut sheet feeder as optional accessory, but none of the
dealers have ever heard of such a thing.

Make sure that the mother board bios feeds bi-directional data to the
printer; (looking under parallel port settings in the set up menu),
especially if the printer does not print in both directions.

I can manage only about 10=13 pages cut sheets per hour, with manual
feedings. If carbon copies are involved, the number goes down to 4 or
5 per hour. On a laser printer, that many pages will take probably
sixty seconds, or less. Even if you take 15 copies (oh well, we
lawyers are paper eaters) of each page, you still save a significant
amount of time.

Nowadays, I print only oroginals (for dad, who continues to be a
lawyer), and get the copies photocopied. Else, a 20 page document
will take a whole day to complete.

AFAIK, none of the courts insist on exact carbon coipes (only the tax
men do).

That is not an unintended typo. Just emphasising. :-D
