exactly.. I am using Fedora Core 6 for the same reason and also plan to try out
Ubuntu

Its not all about money... money is to keep the show going on ;-)
but it should not kill the spirit while doing it
In this matter, Ubuntu is much better.
The download of binaries and sources are free,
but the support from Canonical is charged
That kind of model works better
