Karen sings it so sparely, projecting so gently that the song seemingly
could almost evaporate in the air. She brings a special, contemplative
sensibility to this carol.
I have a recording of the same carol by the King's College choir of
Cambridge
University, in the college chapel, accompanied by a powerful organ. This
version, too, is a marvel but with an aura of majesty about it.
The contrast is remarkable, and both recordings lift the spirit. I'm
grateful
for the gift of having both this season.
