A group from the Official Chris de Burgh Mailing List is putting
together a tribute CD (their third) of CdeB songs sung by list members.
Like the first two, the disc will be presented to Chris himself once
it's complete. With the help of a friend with Windows-based sound
editing software, I was able to submit a track for the first CD, though
I missed out on submitting to the second. I'm hoping to be able to
contribute to this third one.

THIS time, though, now that I have a hard drive big enough to do sound
editing, I'd like to do this myself entirely on my Mac. My problem: I
don't have the necessary software or an external microphone.

So, I'm wondering if anyone can point me in the direction of any
freeware or shareware software for Mac OS X (preferably Cocoa, though a
good Carbon app will do) with the following capabilities:

1. Ability to record live audio, either from a USB mic or, failing
that, my flat panel iMac's built-in one.
2. Ability to mix sounds (preferably a multi-track setup, though the
ability to do a simple mix by "pasting" a sound file over another would
also be acceptable).
3. Ability to add reverb and echo effects (for the vocals) to a sound.

I'd also like to get some recommendations on what kind of USB mics are
availble, their quality and price (in Canadian dollars if possible) and
where I might get one (FYI, I live in Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada).

Anyone have any advice on this?
