Hi everyone I've got an indigo slot loading iMac and the CD-ROM doesn't work at all. It has been like this for a while owing to the huge dollars Apple wants for a replacement drive here in Australia.
This morning I went to wake my iMac up, and it crashed and re-booted in OS9 (should have booted up in OSX), but the CD-ROM made some noise! I stuck a cd in it while it was booting up and it pulled it in, read it then spat it out. Now it won't work again. Is this a common thing to die in iMacs? Any ideas why it would work again after being dormant for so long? Can anyone help? The poor thing needs a reinstall but I can't without an internal drive.
