Re: VPC... I don't know about rewinding back to 2.0. I've never used it. I started w/ version 3.0. I'm now at 5.* with the latest updates (and have installed the virtual additions -- when in window mode, click the little disk icon and from the popup menu select "install virtual additions").
I even use XP, and for me, VPC runs absolutely fine in OS 9. The speed is fine, the features are fine, all of my disks are readable and writable from within XP. But... In OS X, I agree, it runs like a dog with three legs...:-) But I wouldn't suggest going back to 2.0. Again, I don't know what features it had/didn't have, but I'm sure that would be a little drastic and very outdated for most of today's systems. Also: Games. I don't think you'll find anyone -- including Connectix -- who will recommend using any version of VPC to play PC games. It's an emulator and as such uses many system resources. Even with a top of the line system in OS 9, any version of VPC will run slower than a regular PC and will not be a good choice for running graphics-heavy games. It's mainly for compatability needed by people in a corporate environment, I believe, for whatever PC programs there are that don't run on Mac. I use it, for example, to check my web pages for cross-platform accessibility. Good luck... -Steve Sobek On Friday, August 2, 2002, at 09:41 AM, Dennis B.
