Er, I'm way past all that. :) ... The old paperclip trick does the same thing as hitting Eject in the finder - the rollers spin their hardest but the CD only comes out a few millimeters. I'm now at the point of opening the drive, and it seems either the rollers are too worn to provide good friction, or the springs before the rollers are too hard to compress. I think I'm going to be able to fix it.
