Les, the iMac IS sensitive to RAM specs. I buy only from reputable 
vendors (Crucial, Data Memory, etc.) and haven't had the problem. I 
recently installed Sonnet's HARMONi upgrade and at the same time put 
256MB in the lower slot to go along with the 256MB I've had in the 
upper slot. The result is a Bondi Rev. B, 500MHz, 512MB with FireWire!
