there are three boards in most monitors:
the power board -- self explanatory
the analog board -- actually creates the analog video signal using the 
signal from the graphics card in the computer.
the video board -- also called a 'deflection board' in some displays, 
this is the board that actually drives the CRT.

this is all blurred in an iMac or eMac. in most iMacs, all three are 
represented in a module called the Power/Analog/Video Board, which is 
really 2 boards -- a power/analog board and a video board.
