That's because it didn't. The firmware upgrade may have highlighted a 
problem that was about to happen anyway, but the firmware most 
certainly did not kill your iMac.

You are right, on the Mac the terms "logic board" and "motherboard" are 
used interchangeably. I believe the "analog board" on an iMac is the 
part that handles the analog sound in and out.
