I have the same issue with my PB.  When iTunes is playing, it's the 
correct volume, but when any alert sounds, it's WAY too loud.  If I 
use headphones, everything sounds right.  And that's when I haven't 
adjusted any settings.

I'm baffled by this behavior.  It's all going out the same port!

Sorry, I don't have a resolution, but I'd love to find one!
