>>I have asked for help with intermittent poor internet connections, and recently other people have too. This seems to be a common problem with iMacs. Slowing the connection speed to version 34 from 90 helped some, but sometimes I still get a bad connection. I can send e-mails, but not reach any web sites, the connection is so poor. It happened again today, so I decided to try something new. I have noticed that once this problem starts, it usually continues all day. I guessed something might be screwy with the modem.
Anyway, when the connection went bad, I restarted my iMac. Voila! Connection back to its normal speed. I don't know, but to me this confirms that the problem is not the provider, or static on the analog line, or anything else people have suggested, but something messed up in the modem itself, or in the software. I wonder if Apple didn't save a bit too much money when they priced out the modems? For what it is worth, those of us with bad internet connections, try restarting your iMac. If this works for you too, I would appreciate a note. This has been such an annoyance.<< ------------------------------------ Just as another troubleshooting technique, you might try trashing the preferences (pref file) for the modem. This will cause you to have to reset the modem preferences, but that isn't too hard. Quite often, intermittent problems, or problems that seem to defy logic, are due to a defective preferences file. Will this fix your problem? Don't honestly know, but it is worth a try. Jerry -- The iMac List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
