NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As an Apple Service Tech I see and work on hundreds of machines a month. Do
not EVER use Norton. Not Speed disk, Not Disk Doctor. Nothing. Norton
causes problems and then fixes them. I have said it a hundred times...
Norton is a horrible program. It is written with a cute GUI interface to
make the user (usually a novice) think that it is actually doing something
useful. Most times when you use Norton and then use Disk First Aid after it
the 2 will contradict each other. Norton will find problems and fix
them...then Disk first aid will find problems with what Norton fixed and fix
them back again. You should believe in, and trust the Utility that Apple
itself included with your Mac. Norton Speed Disk offers no speed increases
while putting your data at risk, and Disk Doctor is a joke. I have had many
clients lose all of their data after running either program. Mary-Jo's
experience with Symantec's products is atypical at best.

You should use the following utilities in OS 8-9.2:

Disk First Aid
Disk Warrior (lovely directory repair utility. A must-have)
Tech Tool Pro (for diagnosing Hardware Problems)

That's all. Rebuilding the desktop (by restarting and holding down the
"apple-option" keys during the restart) will correct a lot of problems and
should be done every 2 weeks or so.
