Because you have a slot-loading CD drive, you cannot replace it with a CDRW.
There just aren't any.

Apple shipped a lot of slot loading iMacs with 8/4/24X CD-RWs built in,
didn't they? I don't know if these can be swapped among all the slot loading
iMacs or not though. Or if you can find them anywhere. I just looked on eBay
"iMac slot" and saw DVD and CD drives, but no writers. I'd think that the
CD-RWs would show up occasionally as people parted out broken machines at
least.

Actually there is one. MCE offers the only after market combo drive for the slot loaders http://store.mcetech.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc? Screen=PROD&Product_Code=IMACSLCOMB24 that I have encountered. The problem is because it's such a low volume product, it is real spendy. An external solution is cheaper.

They even offer a DVD burner for the slot loading iMac. Buying a used Mac is cheaper.<G>
