Hi,

Among other things, I am contemplating replacing the 4 GB HD in Rev B. Bondi. I have been doing some reading on the Internet and I have learned that

A) The limit the iMac will recognize it about 140GB
B) The boot OS must reside in the first partition of a drive not larger than 8 GB.
C) A 7200 RPM drive might make a little more heat than the iMac cares for.
D) I am not as smart as I think I am.

Let's say I buy a 40 GB 3.5 in ATA drive. I have OS 9 and OSX on CDs ready to install. When I put the new drive in do I boot from the OS 9 disc and partition the drive at that time?

What is the best way to get the info from my old 4 GB drive? I do not have firewire or a CD burner so can I buy some sort of USB enclosure for the drive so I can transfer what ever info is on it back to the new drive?

I have never had a Mac or PC with a partitioned HD. Are there any particular strategies to working with a partitioned drive? In case you want to know what I use my iMac for, I am not a super high-end user. I take lots of family photos with a digital camera and mess around with Photoshop. Also, I would like to get 100 or so of my favorite CDs into iTunes and get an iPod at some point.

I know many of these questions might seem like putting the cart before the horse but I like to plan ahead :)

Thanks so much!
