This may not be the best place to ask but...
I am studying Spanish. If you look at the last census, the reason should be pretty obvious. Anyway, I am trying to type a paper in Spanish. Is there a language function that will allow me to type with the Spanish letters? Do we have access to a Spanish dictionary for word processing, (most particularly MS Word). If so, how do I access it?

Although you can change the language in System Preferences that changes the keyboard layout. It's easier to leave it under the American English layout and memorize the keystrokes necessary to create those characters you need.

To accent a letter type Option-e and then the letter.
To create the tilde over the n for , type Option-n and then type n again. ()

Those of you who need to type in Portuguese take note that you create the the same way. Type Option-n and the either the a or o.

To type the dieresis (two dots above the letter) type Option-u and the the letter u again. () Useful for words like gera (Mexican Spanish for blond girl) guagero (Cuban Spanish for bus driver).

As for Microsoft Word, go to the Tools menus and select Language...
Select Spanish from the list. If you do it before you type everything will be set to Spanish. You can mix more than one language in one document by simply selecting the language before you type or highlighting a section later and denoting it as the language you desire.

The built in Spanish dictionary should catch most of your errors. It even corrects misplaced accents
