A friend on another list has this question.

Riven and Myst by Ubi Software.
There is a new version of Myst that has just been released "Myst IV
Revelation", but the specs say it needs 4x DVD or faster, I phoned Ubi and
they confirmed this, it really doesn't make much sense to me, it is not a
"must have game" and there are many more users with CD than DVD, so I think
they are limiting their market.
I suspect that a DVD drive is, in fact, required. You may recall that Riven shipped with six (6) CDs! Myst IV would probably require 10 CDs if they didn't go to a DVD format. Perhaps they figured that that much media would eat up more of their profits then what they'd lose on lost sales due to requiring DVDs.
I have a flat panel iMac, but it just has a CD Rom, it doesn't have DVD, is
there any possibility this would run on a CD, if not what affordable DVD Rom
would be recommendable, I know nothing about DVD. I would probably use it
mainly to play Myst IV.
I didn't know that any flat-panel iMacs shipped with just CD-ROM drives, but I suppose you're looking at an upgrade. I believe OWC has some superdrives for under $100, but I'm not sure how easily a flat-panel iMac can be upgraded.
