Age has nothing to do with it. I started with computers at 4, and was writing my own programs by 7, doing hardware repair by 9... by the time I was 10 I was operating my own BBS and actively participating in forums far more advanced then this one (this was LONG before the internet was an issue, and BBS's tended to be an aggressive atmosphere, at least the ones I was interested in sure could be) I have seen people plenty older than Carmen[1] that do the exact same things he/she is doing. Its not age, its experience and understanding of Nettiquette, as well as a bit of maturity. There is nothing going on here a 10 yr old couldn't handle. It all depends on the individual. That said, a list that follows nettiquette pretty tightly is not a place for any beginner regardless of age. I'm not sure there are any LEM based lists good for a beginner (any that I have been or am on all tend to err on the side of aggressive nannies, and that's not a good place for beginners). So although I do agree that Carmen should probably sit back and do a little more observing and a little less interacting, I am NOT prepared to blame this on age, and I don't think Carmen should be run off for less then perfect behavior.
