I accidentally came up with the solution to the font display problem. You folks were correct right along. My problem occurred because of the sequence - that is the point where I attempted to input my selection.
What I was doing was bringing up the word processing screen first and then attempting to change the font display. Wrong-O !! But then I tried preferences BEFORE I selected under starting points, and Voila! I got the font display choice box. I knew it would be something elementary that I was overlooking.
