Imac Fried?

My wife went on a trip and shut down her iMac 350 (OS9.2) when she came 
back a few days later and tried to restart it the green light on the 
power button comes on, then a fzzztin or crackling sound, then nothing.

I fear it may be fried, but hoping I am wrong. Since I am in CA and she 
is in TN.
