Hi I have a question regarding the 10/100/1000 Ethernet on a G4 1.25GHz 1GB and a 10/100/1000 Ethernet on a G5 dual 2Ghz 1.5GB.
We currently backup our Ethernet Disk using a Lacie d2 AIT2 Firewire drive on the G4. It is only backing up at 6GB an hour. After extensive testing and troubleshooting worked out that the read speed of the Ethernet disk on the G4 (and every other Mac beit 10/100 or 10/100/1000) was very slow, but on the G5 it was fast. Example copying 200MB from the Ethernet Disk onto the G4 took nearly 20mins but only 3 on the G5. At first I thought it was just because it was a G5, but the writing speed is the same on all machine - super fast. Can anyone shed any light onto it. The G4 is running Panther 10.3.9 and the G5 is running Tiger 10.4.2, but if this was an OS problem then wouldnt the write speed also be slow. Lacie are useless and Dantz who make Retrospect the backup software wont offer any help.
