Hi!
I have tried to start up the computer from an external drive and
the Open Firmware password prevents me from booting from another CD/
drive. I think this computer was used in a school/library because
it's locked down pretty well. If I can get past the Open Firmware
password, I could boot from an external source. Any ideas?
The one that worked for me on my iMac 400 to reset the open firmware
password was:
1. disconnect power & flip the iMac upside down
2. remove one of the RAM sticks from the iMac (I have 384MB in it, I
removed the 128MB stick)
3. flip the iMac back up normally & plug in
3. on the *first boot* immediately after removing the RAM, hold down
option-apple-P-R and let it chime the three times
for me, that removed the openfirmware password I'd set. Just tried it
again a few minutes ago to be sure it worked, and it
cleared it successfully.
