It's been awhile now but....I upgraded to 9.1 the to 92.2 and then
downloaded the driver for OS9 from HP website.  It wouldn't work as I
remember pretty much as you describe.  I did manage to get it to work
occasionally but not consistently by going to the extensions manager and
clicking the x off, restart, click the x back on and restart again.  It
would work for awhile but never right.  I gave up and went and bought a $94
HP 3 in one and I like it for what I do.  It's a much smoother printer and
all things considered the copier is good too.  The scanner is OK is you
don't care about quality.  My HP 695c which I truly loved for 4 or 5 years
is now in the basement collecting......whatever, I'm not going to look.
