On a sidenote, is anyone getting good results with an FM transmitter thing to play the iPod through the car radio? Kensington are saying that theirs is
the best - are there any satisfied users out there?

Kevin,

I have the iTrip. I'm not fond of it. Sometimes the signal is not crisp, as if I was beginning to get out of range of a radio station. That's with moving the iPod into various locations and angles in the vehicle. I have not talked to anyone else who has it, though. Also, I am not always able to find a station with the directions (sort of a "seek" feature). I have to manually find a station, then try to match it on the iPod. I usually get it to work, but I'm not exactly sure how I do it.

In the iTrip's defense, it is kind of neat, once I get it working well in my car, to then get other cars nearby to tune in to the same station, and then get everyone to turn up their radios.

I have resorted to using the cassette adaptor to listen to my iPod in the car. If you use the cassette adaptor and feel that you are getting lots of distortion, turn the volume down on the iPod until it sounds clear, and then turn the car's volume up instead.

I would like to know if anyone else has had good success with the FM transmitters.

On a totally different note, I've recently used a male-to-male adaptor to plug the iPod into the stereo jack on a boat. I also was using a power adaptor (the cigarette lighter kind) to power the iPod so I wouldn't run down the iPod's battery. Unfortunately, this resulted in a hum through the speakers that went up in pitch as the boat powered up, and down in pitch as the boat powered down, sort of like the way some car radios use to do many years ago. We forgot to try it with just the iPod battery power (without the power adaptor plugged in).
