If you use a firewire webcam, you have a problem in that you're not
running a G4 processor. iGlasses will solve that. For what it's
worth, I have an iBot and use it with iChat on my B&W 450 process.
I've been happy with it.
If you use a usb cam, you have the same g3 processor issue which
iChat doesn't like, as well as the USB issue. iChatUSB (made by the
same people that make iGlasses) solves this as well. I've used it
with a 266 Wallstreet and a MacAlly USB cam. Picture is ok, but it's
pretty low frames per minute.
On both cams, they are much better with good lighting in your face.
They tend to be pretty dark.

Well, if you're interested in quality, then you really don't have
much in the way of options. iSight simply has NO competition in the
webcam market.
Your biggest problem is that G3 processor -- you're not likely to
get good results regardless of what you buy short of a newer computer.
That said, there ARE other Firewire cams, and there's even a
program called iChatUSBCam or something like that that allows USB
webcams (which truly suck, btw) to be used. Don't expect much.

To use iChat to communicate with your mom, she MUST be using AIM
5.5 (or whatever the current version is) for Windows. Nothing else
will work.
