To which I further ask,

Do you do this ethernet connection while the machines are both turned on, or
while they are both turned off?

Should you turn on file sharing before connecting the machines to one
another?

Does it matter whether the data which you wish to transfer is on the machine
on which you turn file sharing on? Do you leave file sharing turned off on
the other machine?

How, exactly, does one go about mounting the shared machine on the other
one?

Does all this work in OS 9, OS X, or in both? Do both machines need to be
operating either OS 9x or OS Xx?

Can you do the same procedure to move data from a Wallstreet II to a dual
USB iBook G3?

Judy Berkowitz <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> originally asked:

How do I transfer info from my
iMac 233, G3, Rev B, Bondi Blue, OS 9.2.2

to a new
iBook G4, OS 10.4.3

The iMac 233 doesn't have Firewire, so I need some way to do this which
doesn't use it.

I can't find it in the Knowledge Base, although maybe I don't know how to
look for it...

To which chris <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> responded:

Ethernet...

Plug an ethernet cable between both machines (no need for a hub or
crossover cable, the iBook's port will autosense which way it needs to
operate).

Turn on file sharing on one of the machines

Mount the shared machine on the other one

Copy the files you want.
