There must be something amiss in my system, OS X 10.3.9, because when I perform routine maintenance to repair permissions using Cocktail or OnyX, both apps have run over one hour without completing the task. The only way to close the apps is to Force Quit them using Activity Monitor.

I can run Repair Permissions successfully using Disk Utility in under five minutes with no problems.

Does anyone have an idea what may be the problem?
