Store bought, or home brew?

The Mac's DVD Player has problems with some home brew DVDs. In
particular, it doesn't like +R discs very much.

I never had a store bought DVD fail to play in my iMac under OS X when I
used to use it. But that was a while ago, and some of the production
companies are doing strange things for copy protection these days (like
Sony that puts defective titles in their movies to keep ripping software
from being able to read past them). It is possible some of the copy
protection is not compatible with Apple's DVD Player software.

That may be the problem. The ones that wouldn't play done by a professioal, but he may have used a +R disc.
Thanks for your help.
