I've been happy with the vantec -- links on amazon indicate you
probably looked at it and read the reviews. Heat hasn't been a
problem for me, I've used both USB and FireWire without any problem,
the Prolific chipset works with my G3s, I've daisychained a firewire
burner, and it has a power switch on the case unlike some others. The
one thing I'd like different is the power on/hard drive indicator
light to be on the opposite side of the case so that the
power/usb/firewire cords could be coming out the backend v. being in
the front.
