I have used Palm's Desktop Calendar for years in order to synch with my Palm handheld. However, I'm aware of iCal but have never used it. Is it better? About the same? Worse?

Way better, IMHO -- after using iCal now for a long time, I would never even consider going back(wards) to the Palm calendar.

Is it possible to have iCal instead of Palm on my handheld?

Absolutely (using iSync, of course).

HTH!
