Let's see: $99 for .Mac. $129 for the new OS. $79 for iLife. $79 for
iWorks. Almost $400 per year. Cheap, huh?
To be blunt, you are a simmering cauldron of misinformation and FUD.
.Mac IS NOT REQUIRED to use iLife. Tiger IS NOT REQUIRED to use iLife
(nor is it updated yearly). You do not have to buy iWorks to use iLife
OR vice versa. You've conveniently omitted that iLife is ALREADY
INCLUDED on your Mac when you bought it (and needn't be updated unless
you care to do so).
In other words, nothing you say above is actually true, and the rest of
your post is almost pure BS as well because it starts from a false premise.
But even if it WERE true, the people who bother to take advantage of
what these programs and services offer them clearly DO consider it worth
the cost per year (which varies greatly from your ASSumptions).
Any ONE of the programs in iLife (yes, EVEN ITUNES) is worth $80 a year
IF YOU ACTUALLY UTILIZE IT. Ditto iWork and .Mac and the updated OSes
when they appear. These items have VALUE to those who choose to utilize
them. Just because you don't, doesn't mean they have no value -- it
means you've decided they have no value TO YOU (either because your
needs aren't met by them or because you're ignorant of their
capabilities). Big difference there.
Cheap.
As I said before, cheap has two meanings -- and I think you've confused
them.
