I believe the CPUs in the Core Duo and Core 2 Duo iMacs are Laptop processors, at least the 2007 2.66 GHz Core 2 Duo iMac I worked on had the CPU identified by CPU-Z in Bootcamp with XP as a Mobile Core 2 Duo.
As for upgrading, I'm sure it's possible.
