I find it interesting that it would take the disk then spit it out. Is the disk a white disk that looks like one that would show up in a Google Image Search for "Snow Leopard DVD", or is it a grey disk that says "Mac OS Restore" or a copied disk?
One thing to try would also inserting the disk while the system is running and going to (I believe, I'm on a PC right now), Apple Menu>System Preferences>Startup Disk and selecting the SL disk as the starup disk then hitting restart. -- You received this message because you are a member of the iMac Group, a group for those using Apple iMacs and eMacs.
