Someone may have inadvertently set the automatic shut down option.

Go to System Preferences > Energy Saver > Schedule and see whether the 
start/wake options are set.

(NB: This is the path on Snow Leopard 10.6.8; I assume there was no change 
between versions. I don't have a running Leopard system to check.)
